Courier Tonbridge Workhouse
Report
Sandhill is the area of Tonbridge Road
occupied by the Hospital and the old
Workhouse.
The name derives from the rich deposit of
sand quarried for building purposes close to
the old chapel.

The map shows the Beagles Wood oast house,
destroyed by fire in Oct 1952 - see earlier
cutting.
It is not known if they were working on an
old base map or if the destroyed building
was still in existence.
The oast house farm building is the lumpy,
bone shaped structure to the right of the
Romford Road/Henwood Green Road junction.
